Purpose

The purpose of the Scholarship is to provide financial support and mentoring to high achieving Māori and Pasifika students during the second and third years of their Bachelor of Construction (Quantity Surveying major).

We believe by supporting high achieving Māori & Pasifika Quantity Surveyors we will not only bring positive change to the industry, but also to the Māori & Pasifika communities.

Award Value

The value of the Scholarship is up to $8000 per year to cover academic course fees for the recipient’s second and third years of study.

The funds will be paid to the recipient on production of an invoice from their tertiary provider.

Duration

The Scholarship is awarded for two years.

Number of Scholarships

One Scholarship will be offered to a student starting their second-year studies in 2025.

Internship

In addition, Flame Stoppers may offer the successful Scholarship recipient paid work

experience during all or part of the tertiary holidays. Any offer of work, and employment contract, will be negotiated directly with the Scholarship recipient.

Any conditions of employment relating to this Scholarship remain a contractual issue purely between Flame Stoppers Ltd and the recipient.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • Māori or Pacific descent
  • New Zealand citizens or permanent residents
  • a member of the New Zealand Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NZIQS)
  • enrolled in one of the following degree programmes, majoring in quantity surveying/construction economics:
      • Bachelor of Construction (Quantity Surveying) - Massey University
      • Bachelor of Construction (Construction Economics) - UNITEC
      • Bachelor of Construction (Quantity Surveying) – Future Skills Academy
      • Bachelor of Construction (Quantity Surveying) – Ara Institute of Canterbury
      • Bachelor of Construction (Quantity Surveying) – Otago Polytechnic
      • Bachelor of Construction (Quantity Surveying) – Southern Institute of Technology
  • commencing their second year of degree study in 2025.

Selection criteria

  • Academic achievement as demonstrated in course results to date
  • Motivation to achieve in their study and in the industry
  • Openness and willingness to learn

Applications

Application for the 2025 Scholarship open on Monday 6 December 2024 and close on Tuesday 8 February 2025.

The Scholarship recipient will be announced by the end of February 2025
