The He Oha Puiaki – Massey University Māori First Year Scholarship supports Māori students who are under the age of 21 and entering undergraduate study for the first time. This opportunity provides pastoral and academic support enabling recipients to thrive in their first year at Massey.
The value of the scholarship is up to $4,325, including direct payment to the recipient of $3,000 for students studying full time (minimum 105 credits) and $1,500 for students studying part time (minimum 60 credits), support through the Scholars Massey programme up to the value of $1,000 and a Massey University Gym Membership for one year valued at $325.
What you'll be studying
You will enrolling in an undergraduate degree at Massey university for the first time.
Eligibility criteria
You will be:
- a New Zealand citizens with whakapapa Māori
- under 21 years of age at the time of scholarship application
- embarking on undergraduate degree study at university for the first time
Application checklist
Include the following with your application:
- transcripts for your secondary school results to date, in PDF format. If you are studying NCEA please attach your School results Summary from the NZQA website at https://secure.nzqa.govt.nz/for-learners/records/login.do
- transcripts for any study undertaken after secondary school (i.e. polytechnic), if applicable.
- a one-page statement outlining your leadership, resilience and impact. Please also include your contribution to Māori aspirations and initiatives.

When selecting our recipients we will consider your academic achievement to date, you demonstrated leadership, resilience and impact, and you contribution to Māori aspirations and initiatives.
