John Macmillan Brown was born in Scotland in 1845. In 1874, he was selected as Professor of Classics and English, one of three foundation chairs at the newly established Canterbury College in Christchurch. He was Vice-Chancellor of the University of New Zealand from 1916 to 1923 and Chancellor from 1923 until his death in 1935.

What you'll be studying

This is a doctoral scholarship. You will want to or be studying a PhD with a focus on agriculture or horticulture. Your courses will have these prefixes: 111, 112, 117, 119, 138, 171, 188, 189, 238, 239, 283, 284 and 285.

Eligibility criteria

You must:

  • be studying full-time
  • be a New Zealand citizen
  • hold a bachelor's or master's degree from Massey University
  • be studying in specific subject areas.
