The study of food technology is science, nutrition, and technology-based. It combines fundamental sciences, mathematics and chemistry – and the more applied sciences – with business and management. At the end of the four-year qualification, you will be able to move directly into key roles in the food industry such as product development, process improvement or food engineering.
Massey’s food technology qualification combines your passion for food, nutrition and creativity, with practical sciences to ensure that you understand food from all perspectives. It teaches you the fundamental and applied skills that you will need in your exciting career in food science and technology.
The value of the scholarship is up to $6,000 to be dispersed as follows:
- direct payment to the recipient of $5,000 to
- support through the Scholars Massey programme up to the value of $1,000
Who we're looking for
You will be transitioning into university study and have an interest in food technology.
Eligibility criteria
You will be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident who is looking to enter the Bachelor of Food Technology (Honours) specialising in:
- Food Process Engineering
- Food Product Technology
Application checklist
Include the following with your application:
- transcripts for your secondary school results. If you are studying NCEA please attach your School results Summary from the NZQA website at https://secure.nzqa.govt.nz/for-learners/record
- a statement on your motivation for studying a Bachelor of Food Technology as well as your hopes for the future of food technology or the food industry in New Zealand (one page max).

When selecting our recipients we will consider your fit for the scholarship as supported by your supporting statement. Your academic achievements to date may also be taken into consideration.
