The Extramural Student Support Trust (ESST) was established in 2011 through a founding grant from the Extramural Students' Society (EXMSS), in recognition of the unique needs of distance students undertaking study at Massey University. The Trust is held in perpetuity by the Massey University Foundation to provide financial assistance, scholarships, and bursaries to distance students. Awards are made at least once a year, with the selection process administered by Massey's Scholarships Office on the recommendation of the Trust. These scholarships and bursaries reflect the Trust's enduring commitment to supporting the academic journeys of students who study primarily by distance.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for an undergraduate or postgraduate student who is studying primarily by distance. You will be the parent to a child (or children) under the age of 16 and be balancing study and family responsibilities.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants must be:
- New Zealand citizens or permanent residents
- a parent to a dependent child/child under the age of 16
- studying an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification at Massey University, primarily by distance mode
- enrolled in a minimum of 30 credits per semester
Application checklist
Include the following with your application:
- a budget outlining your income and expenses, particularly in relation to family responsibilities.
- a statement outlining your financial hardship and how this fund would be used to support you.
Selection considerations
Selection will be based on demonstrated financial hardship resulting from the challenges of balancing study and family responsibilities. Priority may be given to applicants managing study around school hours, childcare constraints, or single-income households.
Performance in study to date may also be taken into consideration.
