Professor Douglas Paton was a world class researcher and listed in the Stanford University/Elsevier BV list of the top 2% most cited researchers worldwide. He has created an extraordinary body of knowledge and wisdom in the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) space in the form of comprehensive theories developing all-hazards and cross-cultural individual and collective adaptive capacities. To honour Douglas’s legacy on his contribution in DRR, his family, partner, and colleagues have created three annual scholarships and awards in his name to support post-graduate students, emerging researchers, accomplished scholars, and practitioners. These are the:
- Professor Douglas Paton Disaster Risk Reduction Course Scholarship
- Professor Douglas Paton Distinguished DRR Dissertation Publication Award
- Professor Douglas Paton Distinguished Researcher Lifetime Legacy Award.
These awards recognise and advance Douglas’s visionary work in disaster science, his deep commitment to education, and his global impact on building resilient communities.
