Application dates
The Scholarship was established in 1993 by the women politicians of Lower Hutt and supported by the Hutt Valley Branch of the National Council of Women to mark the centennial of women’s suffrage in New Zealand.
Eligibility criteria
- Each applicant shall have been a resident within Lower Hutt continuously for at least three years or shall have attended a secondary school within Lower Hutt for at least three years.
- Applicants are required to provide proof that they are academically able to undertake their chosen course.
- Applicants must be intending to enrol in an NZQA approved course of tertiary study.
- Consideration will be given to community involvement and motivation.
- The applicant’s personal and financial situation will be considered, as well as long term goals

Applications must reach the SHE Trust by 19 September (Suffrage Day).
Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application in writing.
The decision of The SHE Trust is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
The value of each Scholarship will usually be up to a minimum of $1000 (but lesser amounts can be given) while prizes will be a minimum of $300. Recipients will be recognised at a special function early in the year of intended study.
Applications will be treated confidentially in accordance with the Privacy Act 1993.
Successful recipients are required to take part in promoting the SHE Trust and to update the Trust at the end of their first year of study.
The Scholarship and Awards will be provided in late January.
