To assist PhD students to excel in the areas of agriculture, horticulture, and food technology by supporting them to undertake overseas research travel as part of their doctoral degree.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for a PhD student undertaking research in agriculture, horticulture, or food technology. You will have passed your confirmation of registration event at the time of applying.

Eligibility criteria

You will be intending to partake in a research visit which will be of benefit to the applicant’s programme of study and will include collaborative research, sample collection, or analysis

Application checklist

Include the following with your application:

  • a statement describing how the proposed visiting programme will benefit your personal development and that of the PhD programme
  • a statementing outlining the intended travel and anticipated outcomes
  • a budget of the proposed costs and justification for these costs
  • areference from your supervisory panel regarding your capacity and how the proposed visiting programme will benefit the PhD programme and help maintain and grow Massey’s international collaboration
  • a copy of your transcripts for your postgraduate study

Selection considerations

When choosing our recipients we will consider:

  • research excellence
  • merit and achievement in prior postgraduate study
  • the nature of the research visit, including the intended travel, anticipated outcomes, a budget of the proposed costs and justification for these costs
  • the benefit of the proposed research visit to the researcher development and study
  • a reference from the applicant’s supervisor regarding the capability of the applicant, how the proposed research visit will benefit the completion of their PhD research at Massey, and how it will maintain and grow Massey University’s international collaborations.

Priority will be given to applicants who are visiting one of the following universities: Wageningen University (Netherlands), University College Dublin (Ireland), University of California, Davis (USA), Cornell University (USA), Iowa State University (USA), Guelph University (Canada), China Agricultural University (China), University of Hohenheim (Germany), Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Switzerland), AgroParisTech (France), University of Reading (UK). However, applications are not restricted to the universities and will be considered for travel elsewhere.
