This year’s guest is Australian artist Tracey Moffatt, a powerful visual storyteller who has worked in photography and film for over three decades. Her work explores her childhood memories, as well as issues of race, gender, sexuality and identity.
Ms Moffatt has held over 100 solo exhibitions of her work in Europe, the United States and Australia, and her films have been screened at the Cannes Film Festival, the Dia Centre for the Arts in New York and the National Centre for Photography in Paris. In 2007, she was awarded the prestigious Infinity Award for art photography, selected by an international panel at the International Center of Photography in New York.
For this year’s lecture, Ms Moffatt will discuss her current art projects, her methods of working and how she is influenced by everything and nothing.

The Photobook/NZ festival runs from 7-9 August.

About the Peter Turner Memorial Lecture
The Peter Turner Memorial Lecture was established in memory of the late Peter Turner who was a photographic historian, curator, author, editor, publisher and teacher.
He championed photography as an art form and contributed to public knowledge and understanding of the medium through public lectures and exhibitions of contemporary New Zealand photography.
Associated with the memorial lecture is a master’s scholarship in his name in documentary photography. One scholarship is awarded each year to an exceptional candidate wishing to advance their photographic work through a period of postgraduate study.
The scholarship and memorial lecture series were launched in 2008 and are supported by a Massey University Foundation funds appeal.
The Peter Turner Memorial Lecture is being held at Soundings Theatre, Te Papa Tongarewa, Thursday 6 August, 6.30pm.
