Bachelor of Business (Property) student Sophie Rollitt has been named the 2026 recipient of the Marcus Kitt Colliers Bursary, recognising her strong academic performance, industry experience and dedication to the property profession.

Studying on the Auckland campus, Sophie is in her third year, and balances university alongside employment in both property management and hospitality.

The Marcus Kitt Colliers Bursary was established in 2014 and financed by Colliers New Zealand Limited, to commemorate the life and contribution of Marcus Kitt, a long-serving Colliers staff member and Massey Business School graduate. The award supports future property professionals who demonstrate academic merit, strong interpersonal skills and potential to succeed within the industry.

Sophie says receiving the $5000 bursary is both a practical and motivating boost as she continues her studies and builds experience within the sector.

“The bursary provides me with invaluable support as I complete my studies and continue to grow my experience within the property industry. I can now dedicate more time to my coursework and professional development opportunities, helping me take the next step in the property industry.”

Sophie chose to study property at Massey because of the programme’s real-world focus and flexible learning options, which allowed her to balance study with employment.

She says already working within property management has strengthened her understanding of the industry and reinforced the value of what she is learning through her degree.

“I can see the real-world application of what I am learning in class.”

School of Accountancy, Economics and Finance Senior Lecturer, Dr Alan Pope, says Sophie stood out as a deserving recipient because of her work ethic, academic success and commitment to the industry.

“Sophie is a hardworking student who balances part-time employment relevant to her studies in property, with additional work commitments. She participates actively and thoughtfully in class and has a bright future.”

Sophie continues to explore career pathways within the property sector, and says commercial property management and property valuation are among the roles she is considering for the future.

“This reward is more than financial support, it’s also a source of motivation to continue striving for excellence as I prepare for a professional career in the property world.”
