The VetMAP pathway is open to domestic students who are of New Zealand Māori or indigenous Pacific descent applying to the Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc). These students can elect to apply through either the General or the VetMAP pathway (but not both in the same year).
The VetMAP pathway has been developed out of the previously existing Treaty of Waitangi application process (instituted in 2007), with revisions modelled off the highly successful, evidence-based Māori and Pacific Admission Scheme (MAPAS) for health science at the University of Auckland. The revised pathway honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Pacific partnerships and aligns with the local, university and government initiatives for Māori and Pacific student success as well as the United Nations Directive on the Rights of Indigenous people.
The purpose of the VetMAP pathway is to support Māori and Pacific students aspiring to join the veterinary profession to be successful during their university study, through academic, cultural and pastoral support during selection into, and completion of the BVSc. This should also enable a more representative veterinary profession in Aotearoa New Zealand to be achieved.
VetMAP application
This application is for students applying for the Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree under the Veterinary Māori and Pacific students (VetMAP) pathway.
As a VetMAP applicant you will need to attend the following compulsory events on the Manawatū campus in Palmerston North:
- VetMAP noho/orientation during orientation week (17 and 18 February 2024)
- VetMAP interview and multiple mini interview (MMI) (May 2024)
- Monthly Whakawhanaungatanga events
Before completing this form
You will need the following documents available to upload into this application:
- NCEA results, NZQA record, official academic transcripts from university or tertiary studies;
- Whakapapa/Family Tree;
- Verification of your whakapapa/family tree (ie iwi runanga registration letter, signed letter from kaumatua/kuia, community leader, church leader etc, or birth certificates supported by a letter from the aforementioned).
Submission of this form does not constitute a formal admission application into the BVSc pre-selection or BVSc professional phase at Massey University. You must ALSO apply online to the University
