With Massey’s Bachelor of Sport and Exercise (Sport Development) you’ll be prepared for the various roles sport development plays in the wider sport and physical activity sector.

What is it like?

Sport development is multi-disciplinary and plays an important role in the initiation, support and promotion of sport and physical activity at the volunteer, club, regional and national organisational levels, from grassroots to the elite level. This major will prepare you for work in the varied and growing area of sport development by providing knowledge in topics such as sport organisational structure and function, event and facility management and sport coaching, along with sociological, performance and business issues linked to sport.

You will take a set of compulsory courses common to all the BSpEx majors, then select courses specific to sport development.

Real-world experience

Our strong connections with the sport sector, including a number of national and regional sport and recreation organisations, provide opportunities for you to gain valuable experience. You will apply your knowledge while placed at one of these organisations during your sport and exercise practicum.

The Sport Development major within the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise degree programme will prepare students for work in the varied and growing area of sport development. It provides both knowledge and practical experience in topics such as sport organisational structure and function, event and facility management, and sport coaching along with sociological, performance and business issues linked to sport.
