Transitions in action

Learn about Professor Kelly Dombroski from Massey's School of People, Environment and Planning and her role in producing a free guidebook for wellbeing-centred community transitions.

One of our great challenges is how to repair and build thriving infrastructure and communities as we face climate change, volatile economies and socio-political changes. A new, free guidebook offers real-world Aotearoa New Zealand case study examples to support transitioning to resilient, ecological, wellbeing-centred communities.

Massey Geography Professor Kelly Dombroski co-authored 'Transitions in Action: An Urban and Regional Transitions Guide' with Amanda Yates, Gradon Diprose and Thomas Nash. The guidebook is an outcome of their National Science Challenge Building Better Homes, Towns and Cities programme research.

The guidebook provides practical advice and real case studies on 6 critical areas – transport, community, economy, energy, environment and housing – of needed change for a healthier, safer future for Wellington area communities. The practical advice focuses on change that can be made by 2040, a close enough timeframe to keep efforts moving forward and far enough away for projects to be successful.
