Find out how to get a student ID card, the photo requirements, and what to do if you lose your card or change your name.

Once you have been admitted to Massey you can request your Massey student identity (ID) card. Your card can only be used by you.

What's on an ID card

Your student ID card will have:

  • a recent photo of you
  • your student ID number
  • your legal name
  • an expiry date.

Where you can use your ID card

You can use your ID card:

  • when using library facilities
  • for photocopying or printing documents on campus
  • on campus when you sit exams.

Many businesses may offer student discounts if you have a student ID card. You will need to check with them when making your purchase.

Misuse of a student ID card may breach the Code of Student Conduct and may incur serious consequences under the Student Discipline Regulations.

How to request an ID card

  1. Log in to the student portal.
  2. Click the Request student ID card link.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to capture or upload your photo.

Once you submit your image you will receive an acknowledgement email.

We will review your photo and send you a confirmation email within two working days. Please check your junk mail and/or contact us if you do not receive an email within this time period.

Photo requirements

Your photo will be rejected unless it meets the following requirements:

  • no image manipulation or filters
  • head and shoulders centred with a clear gap around the sides of the head, including hair
  • plain, light-coloured background
  • no head bands or head covering (except on religious grounds)
  • head straight to camera, eyes open, mouth closed
  • eyes must show clearly through glasses - no reflections
  • no sunglasses or glasses with tinted lenses that obscure the eyes.
  • file type needs to be JPG, JPEG, BMP or PNG
  • file size needs to be a minimum of 500KB and maximum of 4MB
  • be in full colour.
  • be less than six months old.

ID card delivery

Once your photo has been approved, you should receive your ID card within 10 to 15 working days.

Contact us immediately if your address changes after you applied for an ID card. If a new card needs to be generated, you will be charged a non-refundable replacement ID card fee.

On-campus students

ID cards requested:

  • between mid-February to mid-March for the current academic year will be sent to your Campus Information Service Centre and you will be emailed when it is available for collection.
  • outside of mid-February to mid-March for the current academic year will be posted to the address on your student record.
  • prior to the start of the year of study, will be posted to you in January of the study year to the address on your student record.

Distance students

ID cards requested:

  • for the current academic year will be delivered to the address on your student record.
  • prior to the start of the year of study, will be posted to you in January of the study year to the address you supplied us.

International students

Your ID card will be delivered to your Campus Information Services Centre and you will be emailed when it is available for collection.

ID cards due to expire

A student ID card is valid for 3 years. If your study is longer than 3 years, you should order a new free ID card any time within 3 months of the expiry date displayed on your card (January – March). If you request a new ID card any earlier, you will be charged the non-refundable replacement ID card fee. Please log in to the student portal, click Request a student ID card. Upload a new photo of yourself and follow the on-screen prompts.

Lost ID cards

To order a replacement ID card, please log in to the student portal and click Request a student ID card. Upload a new photo of yourself and follow the on-screen prompts. A non-refundable replacement ID card fee will be added to your student account when you submit your order. The expiry date for the replacement card will have the same date as the lost/original card.

Faulty ID cards

If your card is faulty please visit a Campus Information Services Centre or contact us.

Name change

If you would like to change the name on your student ID card, you will need to provide a verified copy of both your original birth and marriage certificates.
