Massey University Academy of Sport Returners Scholarships

Previously called the Elite Sport Scholarships, the Massey University Academic of Sport Returners Scholarship supports students from their second year onwards who are achieving in their chosen sport.

Restrictions

Eligibility restrictions: New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. Sporting achievement. Successfully completed, or currently be completing, at least one year of undergraduate degree study at Massey University.

The Massey University Academy of Sport provides a structured academic and performance support programme for high achieving athletes. The support includes on-campus and online group practical sessions and topical seminars and access to an Online Resource Hub. Academic support includes one-on-one staff support, time management and academic planning, career advice and assistance with scheduling conflicts.

The scholarship consists of up to $2,500 funding and an additional $2,000 value of exclusive support for our Scholars.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for student athletes. You will be training and competing in your chosen sport at regional, national, or international level.

Eligibility criteria

You must have successfully completed, or currently be completing, at least one year of undergraduate degree study at Massey University. Current Academy of Sport members will have met the criteria and requirements of the programme. Non-members may also apply.

Application checklist

Include the following with your application:

  • a brief, one-page CV highlighting your sporting achievements (particularly in the past year)
  • a supporting statement from you outlining why you should be selected for the scholarship and including your sporting goals for next year and the longer term. Outline all sporting competitions for the year of scholarship (2-page max)
  • a reference letter from a coach/trainer or a statement from the National Sporting Organisation

Selection considerations

When choosing our recipients, we will consider your sporting achievements and potential and references from your sporting organisation or coach.

For current Academy of Sport members, your engagement with the programme will also be assessed.
