Social-emotional elements of teachers' practices are considered central to students' learning, development and school-related outcomes. However, little is known about teachers' emotional style, especially in an Indonesian context. Mrs Saptandari conducted a mixed-methods study to explore the underlying dimensions of the Indonesian primary school teachers' social-emotional practices. A qualitative research phase was conducted using classroom observations, focus group discussions and individual interviews. Subsequently, using a statistical method for mapping psychological constructs, teachers' social-emotional practices were transformed into a 'map' with three spatial dimensions. Finally, the nature of social-emotional practice was further investigated. She found that Indonesian teachers' social-emotional practice was five dimensional comprising relational philosophy, emotional relationship, nurturing, emotion regulation and classroom harmony. Her research contributes critical insights from the teachers and students' perspective and addresses a gap in current research. In addition, her research holds significance for researchers, academics and policymakers bringing fresh understanding on teachers' social-emotional skills.
