Room allocation
Room allocation
Massey halls are designed to provide a supportive transition environment for students who may be leaving home, moving away from their support networks, or arriving in a new city or country for the first time.
When allocating accommodation, we consider a range of factors including your home location, age, transition and wellbeing support needs, study requirements, and our ability to create a balanced and supportive residential community.
If you are not immediately offered a room, you may be placed on a waitlist and will be contacted if a suitable space becomes available.

Information for international students
You must be over 18 years old to stay in Massey Halls as an international student. Arrival Day for international students is 1 week before classes start.
Massey does not offer a pick-up service from Wellington airport, however there are several public transport options available to you.
Early arrival in New Zealand
Early arrival in New Zealand
Arrival Day is designed to support students with their transition into halls life, including meeting other residents, connecting with support staff, participating in orientation activities, and settling into the community together. Arriving significantly earlier can impact a student’s ability to build connections and fully experience this transition.
As part of our commitment to the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice, we aim to ensure students arrive at an environment where appropriate wellbeing, support, and community systems are fully in place.
If you require an early arrival due to exceptional circumstances, please contact the accommodation team to discuss available options.
International students aged under 18
International students aged under 18
Due to the requirements of the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice, Massey Halls is unable to accommodate international students who are under 18 years of age.
We instead recommend homestay accommodation, which provides an appropriate level of support and supervision for younger students transitioning to studying and living in New Zealand.
Once you turn 18, you are welcome to apply for accommodation at Massey Halls.
Storage during summer holidays
Storage during summer holidays
We are unable to provide storage facilities due to limited space and insurance restrictions.
If you are staying in Massey Halls, we will provide you with information about local storage companies that may be able to assist you.
Short-term stays
Short-term stays
Our accommodation contracts are fixed-term agreements, so we are generally unable to offer short-term stays.
If you are seeking temporary accommodation while looking for private housing, we recommend considering homestay accommodation as an alternative option while you get settled.
