At Massey University in Wellington we have three social sport leagues — volleyball, netball and futsal. Social sport is open to tertiary students from all over Wellington.

Team sport in gym

Social sport starts in the third week of each semester and is played at the Wellington High School recreation centre. It's just a short walk from the Massey University Gym.

Social sport is a great way to make friends, get fit and have fun.

Important dates 2021

  • Registrations close – 4 March
  • Social sport starts – 8 March
  • Mid-semester break (no games) – 5 April to 14 April
  • Social sport ends – 20 May
  • Championship finals (only involves teams in the final) – 17 May to 20 May

Timetable

The social sport timetable for Semester One is:

  • Monday – Volleyball
  • Wednesday – Netball
  • Thursday –Futsal

Social sports are played every half hour from 6.30pm until 9.00pm.

Social sport league rules

Everything you need to know about playing in the social sport league.

  • Each game lasts 30 minutes and has two 15 minute halves.
  • All teams must be ready to play at least 10 minutes before their game is due to start.
  • Teams must start playing on time even if they don't have a full team. This is to avoid making other games start late.

Volleyball rules and draw

  • Six players from each team on the court, at least two women and two men on the court at all times.
  • Minimum of 10 players per team.
  • We recommend having reserves.

Netball league rules and draw

  • Six players from each team on the court, at least two women and two men at all times.
  • Minimum of 10 players per team.
  • We recommend having reserves.

Futsal league rules and draw

  • Five players from each team on the court, at least two women at all times.
  • Minimum of 10 players per team.
  • We recommend having reserves.
