At Massey University in Wellington we have three social sport leagues — volleyball, netball and futsal. Social sport is open to tertiary students from all over Wellington.

Wellington social sport teams in action

Social sport starts in the third week of each semester and is played at the Wellington High School indoor courts. It's just a short walk from the Massey University Gym.

Social sport is a great way to make friends, be active and have fun.

Important dates 2021

Semester One

  • Registrations close – 4 March
  • Social sport starts – 8 March
  • Mid-semester break (no games) – 5 April to 14 April
  • Finals week – 17 May to 20 May
  • Social sport ends – 20 May

Semester Two

  • Registrations open – 12 July
  • Registrations close – 22 July no later than 4pm
  • Social sport begins – 26 July
  • No Games – 23 Aug to 10 Sept
  • Finals week – 4 Oct to 7 Oct
  • Social sport ends – 7 Oct

Register as an individual or team for social sports:

Timetable

Games are every half hour from 6.30pm until 9.00pm:

  • Monday – Volleyball
  • Wednesday – Netball
  • Thursday –Futsal

Social sport league rules

  • Each game lasts 30 minutes.
  • All teams must be ready to play at least 5 minutes before their game is due to start.
  • Games will start on time, even if teams don't have all their players or they arrive late. This is to avoid making other games start late.

Volleyball rules and draw

  • 6-aside, at least two women and two men on the court at all times.
  • Minimum of 8 players per team.
  • We recommend having reserves.

Netball league rules and draw

  • 6-aside, at least two women and two men on the court at all times.
  • Minimum of 8 players per team.
  • We recommend having reserves.

Draw is to be confirmed.

Futsal league rules and draw

  • 5-aside, at least one woman at all times.
  • Minimum of 10 players per team.
  • We recommend having reserves.
