Advanced Assessment and Therapeutic Intervention in Mental Health

Health assessment across the age continuum including physical assessment, assessment of mental status and the selection and application of diagnostic tools for clinical decision-making. A range of therapeutic modalities for working with people in crisis and those living with enduring mental illness is introduced (includes 25 hours lab/practicum).

  • 1 Demonstrate competence in undertaking and documenting comprehensive clinical assessment. This includes critically analysing advanced clinical assessment findings leading to the construction of diagnoses and formulations. It also includes planning appropriate care for tāngata whaiora who experience mental distress, illness and/or addiction including involvement of family, whānau and the multidisciplinary team
  • 2 Analyse and evaluate wellbeing models which inform assessment and treatment planning
  • 3 Apply evidenced-based therapeutic assessment tools and frameworks relevant to the presentation of tāngata whaiora and their presenting problems
  • 4 Analyse and apply mental wellbeing assessment frameworks to specialised work areas such as inpatient, community, primary care, child & adolescent, older persons, addiction and forensic services
