This course is available for practising veterinarians throughout the world to study by distance as a single course or as a component of a part-time Master of Veterinary Medicine or Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Science.

Complete the online test. Submit both written assignments. Achieve at least 50% in the final examination.

  • 1 Use the results of diagnostic evaluations including examination, imaging, ECG, cardiovascular and respiratory monitoring, blood and urine tests to make an initial assessment of an emergency patient, identify underlying disease processes and prioritise problems.
  • 2 Apply the principles of emergency medicine and critical care, including current evidence-based thinking regarding animal physiology, disease pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment, to critically evaluate diagnosis, management and prognosis of a range of common and uncommon canine and feline emergencies.
  • 3 Collate and present clinical information, locate relevant literature, critically review and synthesise its contents and show how this will inform clinical practice. Effectively communicate your findings to others.
  • 4 Utilise peer feedback and reflection to improve clinical practice.
