This course is available for practising veterinarians throughout the world to study extramurally (by distance) as a single course or as component of a part-time Master of Veterinary Medicine or Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Science. The objective of this course is to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for approaching routine neurological cases. Although neurology can be intimidating, this course should lay the groundwork for you to confidently approach neuroanatomic localization. Confidence in localization is the key for the successful management of patients with neurological disease. This course is run over Semester 2 and Semester 3.   • 1 Use the principles of neuroanatomical localisation to determine whether disease in dogs and cats involves the nervous system and, if so, to localise the site. Interpret the results of common diagnostic procedures as they apply to neurology.
  • 2 Apply the principles of neurology, including current thinking regarding the pathophysiology of disease, diagnosis and treatment, to discuss diagnosis, management and prognosis of selected canine and feline neurological diseases.
  • 3 Collate and present clinical information, locate relevant literature, critically review and synthesise its contents to inform clinical practice and effectively communicate your findings to others.
  • 4 Utilise peer feedback and reflection to improve clinical practice.
