Deaf and Hard of Hearing

An exploration of the auditory system and functions, how these may be disrupted, and the lived experience of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. The course has a focus on assessment and support services, and strategies for facilitating communication across the lifespan.

  • 2 Explain the effects of hearing loss on speech perception, communication, auditory processing, and lived experience across the lifespan.
  • 3 Identify and analyse services, adaptations, and strategies for deaf and hard of hearing through critically reflecting on research evidence and access to these services for tangata whenua and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
