About the AWSBC
AWSBC is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for animal welfare science and bioethical analysis located in the School of Veterinary Science at Massey University.
Centre staff members draw together individuals from within the Institute, across the University and beyond, to work in multidisciplinary teams on particular welfare-related projects. This successful strategy achieves flexibility of team membership to meet the specific objectives of each project.
Members of the Centre include its designated staff and External Associates located elsewhere in New Zealand and other countries.
The total expertise base includes scientific, veterinary, management, practical, economic, legal, regulatory, societal, cultural, ethical and emergency response aspects of animal welfare in diverse areas of human-animal interactions.
These areas include the use of animals in research, teaching and testing, on farms, in the home, for sport, recreation and entertainment, in service roles, in zoos and the wild, and in other arenas.
