Te Rau Tauawhi , Māori Student Centre

Ko tā Te Rau Tauawhi he manaaki i te tauira kia puta te ihu, kia angitū.

Te Rau Tauawhi gives manaakitanga, support and advice to Māori students at Massey. We are part of the Ākonga Māori Student Success Support Collective Strategy to help our ākonga Māori realise their academic and all round potential.

Te Rau Tauawhi was founded on tikanga Māori principles of whānau, manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, and mātauranga. We offer a wide range of services and support to help you get the most out of your university experience, whether you're studying on campus or online as a distance student.

Learning and study help

Our ako (learning) services include:

  • general learning support and advice
  • help with course planning
  • mentoring
  • writing workshops
  • postgraduate workshops on writing literature reviews and research proposals.

You’ll also find study and course information on our Stream page. Stream is Massey’s online learning community, and all students get access to it when they enrol.

Connecting with whānau and communities

You can connect with whānau around the university in many ways, through cultural, study and social groups and associations on each campus. For example, if you want to be part of a hapori (community) Māori, we have a Māori student association on every campus.

Find out about our Māori student associations

We can help you find groups relevant to your interests and needs. We can also help you engage with the different services available through the university, such as our health and counselling services.

Events and activities

We host events on each campus most weeks – like our "Kai and kōrero" events, which are a great place for whakawhanungatanga. You can find out about upcoming Te Rau Tauawhi events and activities on our Instagram and Facebook pages.
