Our self-contained studio units are ideal for those wanting to live alone – they are furnished with a kitchenette, private ensuite bathroom with a toilet, basin and shower.
Each room includes:

- small fridge
- sink
- radiator heating
- secure lockable doors
- external facing unit with street view and a window that opens.
Budget Studio Units
Our self-contained budget studio units are a cheaper option as they are internal facing units, the view from the window looks out onto the internal atrium of the building and the windows do not open. Furnished with a kitchenette (no oven), private ensuite bathroom with a toilet, basin and shower.
Each room includes:
- single bed with a new mattress protector
- wardrobe
- shelves
- desk and chair
- notice board
- cook top with two elements
- small fridge
- sink
- radiator heating
- secure lockable doors
- internal facing unit with internal view over the atrium and a window that doesn’t open.
Apartments
Our shared apartments are either two or four bedrooms. Each room includes:

- radiator heating.
Each two bedroom apartment has:
- mini fridge
- stove with two elements (no oven)
- sink
- one bathroom with a shower, basin and toilet
- secure lockable main doors.
Each four bedroom apartment has:

- stove with two elements
- oven
- sink
- one bathroom with shower, basin and toiler
- secure lockable door.
Budget apartments

Items you should bring
Along with clothing and personal items, you should also bring:
- Bed linen, including pillows, comforter/duvet (you can order a bedding pack when you accept your offer of place)
- Towels
- Coat hangers
- Toiletries and toiletry bag
- Laundry basket
- Laundry powder/liquid
- Cleaning products
- An electric fan for the summer
- Toilet brush
- Cutlery
- Crockery (cups, plates, bowls)
- Cooking utensils
- Kettle
- Toaster
- Chopping board
- Saucepans and frying pans.
If you are living in a shared apartment you may prefer to wait until you arrive so you could purchase the kitchen items together and share the cost.
Communal spaces and shared facilities
Whanake Hall has spacious, modern common rooms, a movie room, study room and an atrium.
Residents have access to four shared laundries located on four different levels. Payment for washing machines and dryers is by debit card.
Chest freezers are available in common spaces.
Car parking and bike storage
Car parking is not available at Whanake Hall.
A limited number of bikes can be stored securely at Whanake Hall at no charge. Contact the accommodation office before you arrive to arrange storage . Bikes are not allowed inside the hall.
Catering
Whanake Hall is self-catered accommodation; however you can purchase a Tussock meal package, available at the Massey Campus.
Meals are served at Tussock Café, located in the heart of the campus or they can be taken away. The café offers a diverse range of food options, simply order with everybody else but pay by presenting your Hospitality meal package ID card.
Your meal package provides you with a $60 credit for each week of the term from orientation week onwards. If you don't use the full credit each week it will be accrued during study weeks only, and expires on the last exam day of the year/semester.

Room rates include:
- Internet/wifi
- Utilities power and water (residents who use more than a reasonable amount of electricity will be charged extra)
- gym membership at the Massey Recreation Centre.
Payment options
You can pre-pay by semester or full year. Domestic students are also able to pay on a weekly basis by direct debit.
Deposit
After you have applied for accommodation and your application has been successful, you will need to pay a deposit by the offer expiry date stated in your letter of offer to secure your place.
The deposit is $762 for a full year or $722 for one semester.

To secure a refund of the bond, mattress protector and activity fee, cancellations must be received by :
- 1 December 2023 for returning halls residents
- 22 January 2024 for new hall residents.
The processing fee is non-refundable.
2024 occupancy dates
Your accommodation contract term must reflect your study programme – if your programme of study is full year you must apply for full year accommodation.
