Rooms and furniture
Studios and Budget Studios
Self-contained studios are furnished with a private ensuite bathroom with a toilet, basin and shower.
Each room includes:
- single bed with a new mattress protector
- wardrobe
- shelves
- desk and chair
- cook top with two elements
- small fridge
- sink
- radiator heating
- secure lockable doors.
Budget studios face the building's internal atrium, with non-opening windows.
Apartments
Shared apartments have either two or four bedrooms. Some are inward facing with non-opening windows, allocation in shared apartments is completely random, we do not take requests.
Each room includes:
- single bed with a new mattress protector
- desk and chair
- wardrobe
- pinboard
- radiator heating.
Each apartment has:
- Fridge/freezer for 4 bedroom apts
- Mini fridge for 2 bedroom apts and studios
- stove with two elements
- oven (four bedroom apartments only)
- sink
- one bathroom with a shower, basin and toilet
- secure lockable main doors.
Items you should bring
You should bring your own bedding and towels, kitchen utensils, a kettle, microwave and a toaster. International students will receive a room pack containing bedding, towels and a few utensils.
You should also bring coat hangers, cleaning materials and a small set of drawers or shelves, and may choose to bring a bathmat and drawing pins.

Communal spaces and shared facilities
Whanake Hall has spacious, modern common rooms, a movie room, study room and an atrium.
Residents have access to four shared laundries located on four different levels. Payment for washing machines and dryers is by debit card.
Chest freezers are available in common spaces.
Car parking and bike storage
Car parking is not available at Whanake Hall.
A limited number of bikes can be stored securely at Whanake Hall at no charge. Contact the accommodation office before you arrive to arrange storage . Bikes are not allowed inside the hall.
Catering
You can choose to cook your own meals in the hall’s shared kitchens, or buy a Hospitality meal plan.
Meals are served at Tussock Café, located in the heart of the campus or they can be taken away. The café offers a diverse range of food options, simply order with everybody else but pay by presenting your Hospitality ID card.
Your Hospitality meal plan provides you with a $50 credit for each week of the term from orientation week onwards. If you don't use the full credit each week it will be accrued during study weeks only, and expires on the last exam day of the year/semester.
A discount applies to full-year payment, giving you a total credit value of $1,250 per year.
Hospitality meal credit can also be used at the Pyramid and Museum Cafes, which have limited menus.

Room rates include:
- wifi
- electricity (residents who use more than a reasonable amount of electricity will be charged extra)
- an activity fee that contributes to Whanake Hall events and activities throughout the academic year.
Laundry facilities are not included in room rates. A meal package can be purchased separately.
Payment options
Domestic students can choose from two payment options, outlined below.
- Deposit and two payments for the 42-week agreement.
- Deposit and one payment, then 36 weekly payments of $165 from 5 March 2022 to 5 November 2022.
International students must pay all accommodation fees in full.
Deposit
To secure your accommodation, you will need to pay a deposit by the date stated in your letter of offer.
The deposit is $1,166 for domestic students and includes an administration fee, bond, and internet and activity fees.
For international students, the deposit for a full year is $1,410.
For international students staying for a semester, the deposit is $1,235.

2022 occupancy dates
Your accommodation contract term must reflect your study programme – if your programme of study is full year you must apply for full year accommodation.
