Numeracy test assessment

In 2026 all candidates for the Graduate Diploma of Learning and Teaching (primary endorsement) will be required to sit a numeracy test assessment specified by Teaching Council Aotearoa New Zealand. Further information on this will be provided by the Teaching Council over the coming months.

Study teaching from anywhere in New Zealand

All endorsements are offered by distance and some courses are offered on campus in Auckland or Manawatū.

You can study full-time during 1 extended academic year (late January to mid-November) or part-time across 18 months or 2 years with the flexibility to extend another year further if you need to.

During your study, you will complete:

  • 80 days of placement in an early childhood or school setting within your town or community
  • 23 weeks devoted to course-work and assessments on-campus or online
  • 1 week of in-person wānanga
  • A noho marae experience.

Enrolment information

If you have completed an undergraduate degree, or are finishing your undergraduate degree in 2025, apply for 2026 entry into the Graduate Diploma of Learning and Teaching (endorsed in either Early Childhood, Primary or Secondary).

There is only 1 intake at the start of each year, with applications open throughout the year for future intakes.
