To find what books (ebooks and print books) you can get from the Massey library, start with Discover.
Books
Find a specific book in Discover
- Go to Discover.
- Write the title of the book you want to get in the search box. Make sure you get the words and spelling exactly right.
- Put speech marks ("") around the title if needed – that way, Discover will search for the exact wording of the title.
- Click on Search to see the results.
- Look for how you can read the book. Ebooks have an access link link to view online or download. Print books have a location and request button.
- If the library does not have your book, and you are a postgraduate student or a staff member, you can Search Libraries Worldwide under Supplemental searches on the left, to ask us get it from another library.
Filter results
Sometimes, searching for a title turns up lots of reviews of the book you're looking for – and if you're not used to Discover, it can be hard to know which result is the one you need. Refine your results to make sure you only see books.
- Click on All filters below the search box on the results page
- You can limit to ebooks, print books, or both
- You can also exclude book reviews
Look for books on your topic
You can use Discover to find books on a topic you want to explore.
- Go to Discover
- Write keywords for your topic in the search box
- Click on Search to see the results
- Click on All filters below the search box on the results page
- You can limit to ebooks, print books, or both. Most of our newer books are ebooks, so using these limits will affect the dates of the results.

Using your search results
Once you have found the book you need, you may be able to:
- read it online or download it, if it's available as an ebook
- find it on the shelves in a Massey campus library
- request it for delivery to your home, to pick up at a campus library or to go on a waiting list
- request it from another library, if Massey doesn't have it.

Ebooks
Search for ebooks in Discover
Massey library buys ebooks wherever possible so you can read them online or download them. You may also be able to do things like annotate, highlight, or copy and paste text.
Search for ebooks in Discover by doing a title or topic search. Then, you can limit the results to Ebooks if needed.
Some ebooks have user limits. If the user limit is reached, you will see a message. You may need to come back later to see if it has become available.
The ways you can read an ebook depend on the publisher.
Read ebooks online
If you are connected to the internet you can read all of our ebooks online, without having to download the ebook, get extra software or create an account. It is the easiest option if you are on a Massey library or computer lab computer, and for many other computers and devices.
Look for links such as: PDF Full Text, Read Online, EPUB Full Text or similar.
Download ebooks to read offline
You may be able to download an entire book, for a set issue period, to read offline (i.e. when you are not connected to the internet). You may need to install some software before you can download the ebook.

Textbooks
Some Massey courses have:
- compulsory textbooks, which every student needs to have
- recommended textbooks, which it's a good idea to get and read.
If your course has a compulsory textbook, we strongly advise you to buy your own copy. The Library keeps a limited number of textbooks and these are in high demand.
Find what textbooks you need for your course
You can use Discover to find compulsory and recommended textbooks.
- Go to Discover.
- If you know the title, enter this.
- If you want to see all of the course textbooks, enter the course number – for example, 139105.
