BeWeDo®: Co-creating possibilities with movement

Mr Bradford’s interdisciplinary research highlighted how the movement practices of the Japanese martial art of Aikido can facilitate leadership development for co-creation. Co-creation is a specific collaborative event shared by two or more people at any stage in a design process where ideas and experiences are exchanged to create something not known in advance. His ethnographic research generated a unique conceptual framework called BeWeDo®. This framework is a relational leadership approach founded on the idea that individuals are constituted by their relations, and more specifically the social processes which enable leadership. BeWeDo® is an interactive experience designed to develop the relational leadership skills required to generate co-creative possibilities within social innovation projects at the pre-design and discovery phases of the design development process. His research is the first to investigate how Aikido movement practices can facilitate leadership development for co-creation and the role of emplacement for transforming co-creative possibilities.
