World-leading research into relevant equine health issues.
Massey University's Equine Research Centre provides world-leading research into relevant equine health issues to New Zealand veterinarians and the equine industry. We perform scientific research and promote education to optimise equine health, welfare and the productivity of the equine industry. Massey has the greatest output of equine-related research in Australia and New Zealand. Whether your interest is veterinary care or the use of horses in industries such as racing and sport, we have research relevant to your interests.
Massey University research focuses on health and production issues that limit horse breeding, rearing and performance. This includes athlete and recreational horses and ponies.
Much of our research is conducted as a cooperative effort with the equine industries through the Equine Partnership for Excellence (PfX). International collaborations include the Royal Veterinary College in England, Colorado State University in America and Utrecht University in The Netherlands.
Massey has the largest number of equine specialists and researchers in New Zealand. They are available to veterinarians to help provide a better service to your clients, or for the industry to help manage your horse’s issues more effectively.
If you would like to find out more about our current research, or talk to someone about commissioning or working together on research, please contact us.
