Atawhai community

The Atawhai community is on Keiller Place, Palmerston North. It is a peaceful residential area, located on a sunny ridge above the Manawatū campus. Atawhai is a short but steep 10 minute walk along a pathway, with 150 steps, to campus. The pathway is well formed and has good lighting.

Atawhai consists of thirteen five-bedroom units and nine two-bedroom units. The two-bedroom family units are for students with one or two dependent children.

  • Self-contained and fully furnished. Sheets and pillowcases are provided, but residents must bring their own towels and blankets. Bedding packages can be purchased for $99.00.
  • Ideal for mature students and students studying at postgraduate level.

Room rates

International students must pay all accommodation fees in full. Domestic students can pay the semester or full year fee on a weekly basis by direct debit.

Catering

Self-catered. Residents cook their own meals in their accommodation.

Telephone

Each unit comes with a telephone. Residents will need to set up the service when they arrive.

Internet

Wireless internet is available.

Computer lab

Access to a mini computer lab with three university-networked computers and one printer.

Heating

Bedrooms come with heaters in both the family and single units.

Furniture

Basic furniture and whiteware is provided. Items that are not provided will need to be supplied by the residents. Each bedroom comes with a single bed.

Bathroom

Each family unit has a bathroom with shower and toilet. The single occupancy, five bedroom units come with two showers and one toilet for five residents.

Laundry

Each unit comes with a washing machine. Two clothes dryers and outside clothes lines are available at the shared common room.

Parking

Each two bedroom unit comes with a car park. A communal car park is available for residents living in the five bedroom units.

Campus car parking is available in the large Orchard Road car park, at a cost of $2.00 per exit. Pre-pay parking is only available to students in Bourke Road car park.

Bike storage is available in a sheltered shed.
