In our online community on Stream, you can find out about learning and development opportunities, academic guidance, ways to connect with other postgraduate and doctoral students and support services at Massey.
Connect with other doctoral students
There are many ways to connect with other doctoral students at Massey. For example, we offer:
- a buddy system where you’re partnered with more experienced doctoral students who can give you advice about settling in
- online groups where you can connect to other doctoral students and set goals in a supportive environment
- a group you can join to tend the garden on the Manawatū campus in Palmerston North and share food.
Your doctoral milestones
In our online Stream community you’ll find a checklist for new doctoral students and information about important milestones in your journey as a doctoral student. These include:
- confirmation of registration
- progress reports
- thesis submission
- oral examinations.
Graduate Research School events
The Graduate Research School offers a range of events that you might want to be part of.
- The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, which challenges postgraduate students to summarise their research in three minutes.
- The Visualise Your Thesis competition, which challenges students to showcase their research using a one-minute audio-visual presentation.
- Online thesis writing bootcamps where you join other doctoral candidates via Zoom to write in a supportive environment.
- Media week, where you can attend workshops on things like using social media to promote your research, and engaging with the press.
- Publishing week, where you can attend talks and workshops that introduce you to everything you need to know about publishing.
- Career planning week, which includes workshops on writing effective CVs, cover letters and LinkedIn profiles as well as panel events with recruiters and employers.
