Studying communication management at Massey gives you insight into how different forms of communication are used at work and in the community. You will also investigate how our ability to connect with others is influenced by factors such as culture, gender, and technology.
You can choose from courses that will re-shape how you understand yourself and your world, including Cross-Cultural Communication, Organisational Communication, Gender and Communication in Organisations. If you keep your grades up, you’ll also have the option of completing a communication internship.
You will be joining a communication department that is ranked in the world’s top 200 (according to the QS International Rankings). Our lecturers come from both academic and industry backgrounds, giving you the best of both worlds. Massey’s communication programme is the longest-established inside New Zealand and our graduates have a well-earned reputation for excellence in both theory and practice.
Massey’s communication programme is only the seventh outside of the US to be recognised by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC). This accreditation recognises Massey's "good connections with industry, its commitment to constant improvement, its strong leadership, and large research output". Accreditation means your degree is internationally recognised, making it easier to arrange a student exchange and find employment overseas.
The department of Communication, Journalism, and Marketing is housed within Massey Business School, which is ranked in the top 2% of business schools globally. We are ranked No.1 in New Zealand and in the top 150 in the world for our business administration and communication programmes by ShanghaiRanking.
You’ll emerge with skills that potential employers find very desirable. Communication management shows you how to communicate with diverse groups of people inside various organisational contexts, make presentations to colleagues and clients and write for a range of audiences across traditional and digital formats.
85% of graduates are employed within six months of graduation. These graduates are employed across nine different industry categories with more than 60 different job titles.
Massey was the first to offer a university-level communication management programme in New Zealand, back in 1979. You may become an internal communications specialist, a social media advisor, or you may take on consultancy roles. Whatever your job title, though, the Bachelor of Communication (Communication Management) will give you the skills to engage in strategic planning, media and employee relations, and issues management.
