Massey's Postgraduate Certificate in Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism examines the causes, evolution and manifestations of terrorism and violent extremism, together with the strategies, policies and operational approaches used to counter them. We include New Zealand’s own experience of and responses to terrorism and violent extremism, in light of wider historical and global trends.
You'll combine academic study and practical exercises, and develop the expertise required to analyse complex security challenges, helping to prepare you for a career in the security sector and for further study in the field of international security.
A PGCertCTVE is a good fit if you:

Admission to Massey
All students must meet university entrance requirements to be admitted to the University.
Specific requirements
To enter the Postgraduate Certificate in Countering Terrorism and and Violent Extremism you will have been awarded or qualified for a relevant bachelor's degree.
You will need to provide copies of all official academic transcripts for studies taken at all universities other than Massey University.

This course is an advanced study of terrorism, violent extremism and radicalisation. It critically examines the various theories, concepts and typologies of these phenomena, as well as response options and the challenges they pose in the contemporary international security environment.

Student loans (StudyLink) and Fees Free scheme
You may be eligible for a student loan to help towards paying your fees.
The New Zealand Government offers fees-free tertiary study for eligible domestic students. Students who are eligible for final-year fees free can normally receive up to 120 credits of fees free. However, if you choose to study this certificate you will only receive up to 60 credits fees free. You will not be able to claim the remaining 60 credits of fees free for future qualifications.
