Scholarships, bursaries and prizes

Margaret Richards Bursary

This award is a memorial to Margaret Richards, a member of the University staff from 1960 to 1975. The bursary provides financial support to students who are enrolled in a course of undergraduate or postgraduate study in English at Massey University.

William Broughton Bursary in New Zealand Literary Studies

This award is from a bequest to Massey University by Dr William Broughton, who was an academic staff member in the then Department of English from 1963 to 2004. The Bursary provides financial support to students who take a course in New Zealand literary studies as part of a programme of undergraduate or postgraduate study in English or expressive arts.

R.G. Frean Prize

The R.G. Frean Prize in English is awarded to students who have produced excellent critical, expository, or creative writing for undergraduate courses in English (with the prefix 139) or expressive arts. If you have received an A+ or A grade for an essay or a piece of creative writing in one of these courses, you should consider applying. Note that the application deadline is 31 March for work produced in the previous academic year.

Bennetts University Book Prize for English

This award is for the student who receives the highest grades in 200-level English courses in one academic year. No application is required. The winner receives $150 in book vouchers from Bennetts University Bookshop.

Prizes are awarded to students in the School of English and Media Studies who have produced the best work in English each year.
