Gain globally recognised certification

The Master of Analytics is sponsored by the world’s leading business analytics software provider - SAS. That means that upon completion of this degree you will receive the globally-recognised SAS certification.

SAS business insights also ensure your lecturers are up-to-date with developments in the industry and you will gain access to SAS’ global network of clients. This agreement was the first of its kind with a New Zealand university.

Apply your knowledge to business problems

When you graduate with a Masters in Analytics (Business) you will have gained the skills to understand a business problem and have the skills to use analytics to generate intelligence to provide realistic business solutions. In this business major, you can choose to apply your new-found knowledge and techniques to either marketing, finance or supply chain management.

You will learn about different data sources available, how data is stored and retrieved, and learn the pivotal skills of data mining and statistical analysis.

Real world-learning

At Massey we ensure that your learning is firmly based in a real-world business context. We believe that in order to help you identify the most appropriate technique and data to address a problem, you need to understand the real challenges and context which businesses face.

The Master of Analytics will help you understand all these things, as well as give you training in communicating your findings in a compelling way to a business audience.

This learning includes an applied project, where you will use the knowledge you have gained in a commercial organisation.

Sought-after by employers

The skills you will learn in the Master of Analytics meet the growing demand for graduates capable of harvesting, processing, analysing and presenting data in ways that encourage informed and effective organisational decision making. You will learn how to extract useful information from big data, while maintaining data security and privacy.

This will open up to you the increasing numbers of roles for people who can combine business skills with data analysis and who have excellent communication skills.

Latest theory and relevant, practical learning

Your course of study in the Master of Analytics will cover fundamental data analysis tools, including data mining, statistics, and econometrics. You will then learn how these tools are applied in a business specialisation of either marketing or finance. In the last phase of study you will complete an applied analytics project, where the knowledge and skills you have learnt will be utilised to address a real-world problem in collaboration with an organisation.

Master of Analytics

“The Master of Analytics taught me what is possible, not only what is available…”

I chose the Master of Analytics to help expand my hard skills. While my bachelor's degree with a double major in Marketing and Entrepreneurship and Small Business gave me a strong, well-rounded understanding of business, the Masters of Analytics gave me the ability to turn my knowledge into value. It provided me with a solid foundation allowing me to only be limited by my time, rather than my abilities.

The Master of Analytics helped me to fast track my career by giving me a unique value proposition within the digital analytics industry. It taught me what is possible, not only what is available. This has meant that I am able to build solutions to fill the voids left by existing tools. It also helped me expand my skill base so that I am able to effectively communicate and collaborate with other facets of the business, both internal and external.

The data science field can be daunting, it pulls techniques and methods from many different disciplines from psychology to economics, computer science to biology.

I found this degree to be beneficial in not only what we learnt, but by also discovering what the field as a whole includes. I would recommend the course to anyone looking to develop a well-rounded understanding of the fundamentals of data science, and what is possible within the industry.

Careers

Graduates with business analytical skills, and the ability to apply those skills to real-life situations, are in very high demand across all industry sectors. Professional services firms and government agencies also seek specialists in this field.

After completing this qualification, potential roles include

  • consultant
  • business analyst
  • investment specialist
  • customer insights officer
  • database analyst
  • business insight executive
  • supply management specialist.

If you are currently working in marketing, finance, or supply chain management, this qualification will broaden your skill set and allow you to further your career.

Earn more

A 2017 Ministry of Education publication The post-study earnings and destinations of young domestic graduates, found that in New Zealand:

  • Young master’s graduates earn more than one and a half times more than the national median (five years after study)
  • Earnings and employment rates increase with the level of qualification completed
  • Five years after completion, the median earnings of young master’s graduates are 15% higher than for those with a bachelor’s degree.

Real world learning

Employer endorsement

Guy Day, lead consultant, Potentia

“I have found that graduates from the Master of Analytics course have come into the job market ‘business ready’ with a real sense of understanding as to how the use of data-driven decision making can lead to quick and tangible wins for NZ business. With the course containing a core blend of technical/analytical courses, coupled with the business/industry skills training through meaningful internships, this course ensures you get a leg up into the data industry.”

Work placement

Hang Minh

“The work placement in the Master of Analytics was a golden learning opportunity. I was part of the Data Science Team in The Warehouse Group and was responsible for a data analytics project. I enjoyed this opportunity very much, because I could apply all the skills from the course in a practical context. I learnt how to understand the business problem by communicating with different teams, how to collaborate with team members, how to manage a data analytics project to get the job done and especially how to persuade managers and take them on the analysis journey.”

Carolyn Rohm, Head of Analytical Development, Adept Decisions

“The work placement really ensures that the theoretical knowledge gained over the degree is applied in a practical, real-world situation – working with real data and real questions; and all the challenges associated with that.”
