Specialise in Applied Professional Practice for your Bachelor of Business at Massey
The Applied Professional Practice major is the first of its kind in New Zealand. Designed with input from many New Zealand organisations and industries, it combines the existing strengths of Massey’s leading business undergraduate degree with innovative practical elements.
When you study the Bachelor of Business (Applied Professional Practice) you will learn business principles and concepts and put them into practice to develop professional skillsets and critical thinking skills enabling you to make informed strategic choices.

We’ll teach you to think independently and analytically, helping you understand how to seek and use a range of resources and information to solve challenging issues.
Because Massey University’s teachers are actively researching, you will be taught the most relevant perspectives, from influential academics, in the most experienced environment. We are also partnering with a range of Aotearoa NZ businesses to give you authentic learning experiences throughout the major.
The Bachelor of Business will give you the leadership, communication and critical thinking skills that will make you a sought-after employee. It will give you skills you can use in many different types of businesses, in New Zealand and around the world.
In the major, the three practical courses and the internships offer the opportunity to reflect on promising business practice and engage with local enterprises, adding more practical experience to your CV than an internship alone, and enhancing your employability prospects.
A Bachelor of Business in Applied Professional Practice is a good fit if you:

Planning information
If you study full-time, in your first year, you’ll take eight 15-credit courses, making a total of 120 credits.
If you wish to study over two semesters, you should aim for 60 credits per semester. You may be able to take some courses at summer school. Make sure you include courses that are prerequisites for the next level of courses you wish to study.
The Applied Professional Practice major requires you to take a minor or a second major.
Core business courses
There are ten core business courses and you must pass at least eight of them. The core courses are 115111, 115112, 115113, 115114, 115115, 115116, 115211, 115212, 115230 and 115340.
You must pass at least 60 credits of 100-level core courses within the first 120 credits, and and at least 30 credits of 200 or 300-level core courses within the first 240 credits of study towards the degree.
These are courses which cover topics across the business spectrum. They are designed to give you the leadership, communication and solid business skills that you will need in your career.
In your first or second year
You must include either 115212 or 115230 in your core because they are prerequisites for two of your major courses.
In your final year
You will complete an internship as part of your major.
Minors
Completing a business minor is compulsory for the Applied Professional Practice major. Minors increase the breadth of your degree. They give you extra knowledge, attributes and capabilities that you need to apply in the practical business contexts you explore in the APP major. A minor must be in a different subject from your major.

You must choose a minor from any Massey Business School offerings to complement your Applied Professional Practice major.

Students will develop personal and professional skillsets needed to engage with professional workplaces. Simulation and scenario-based learning will be used to facilitate experiential learning and training to enable students to develop their capabilities in linking theory to practical application.
