The Postgraduate Certificate in Business (Business Administration) is for those with substantial business experience, sometimes without any prior completed under-graduate degree. You will have at least seven years’ business experience, with at least three of those at management level.

This qualification includes courses we think are most suitable and is for those who are looking to progress to more professional development at a postgraduate level, ie. completing an Executive MBA.

The courses are all Executive MBA courses with a focus on the practical application of the learning. This qualification is taught with convenient weekend teaching complemented by online sessions with your lecturers so that you can continue to work as you study. The classes will enable focused and relevant learning and provide opportunities for you to develop deep connections with networks of like-minded peers.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Business (Business Administration) can be completed in two semesters, or over two years. Each course requires 150 hours of work including two or three days in class. The typical course length is six weeks.

You will work with teaching faculty who have international and local management experience, chosen for their ability to present their learnings in a practically relevant, easy-to-grasp context.  Your learning will also draw from the most recent research and is assessed through practical assignments. There are no examinations in this qualification.

A Postgraduate Certificate in Business in Business Administration is a good fit if you:

Planning information

You can complete the 60 credits over two semesters or up to two years.

This qualification is designed for students who want to study the Executive MBA but do not meet all the entry requirements for that qualification.

Most courses are offered on the Auckland Campus or at an Auckland Airport Hotel in block courses over a weekend. You can transfer between locations giving you flexibility, allowing you to structure learning around your life, both professional and personal.

Entry requirements

Admission to Massey

All students must meet university entrance requirements to be admitted to the University.

Specific requirements

This is a selected entry qualification. This means there are a number of extra requirements you must meet. 

To enter the Postgraduate Certificate in Business (Business Administration) you will:

  • have been awarded or qualified for a relevant bachelor’s degree, or equivalent; 
  • have at least seven years business experience, at least three of which must be at management level
  • have been selected into the qualification on the basis of a selection process which may include a written application, interview and practical exercises.

You will need to provide the following documents:

  • copies of all official academic transcripts for studies taken at all universities other than Massey University
  • a full CV showing at least seven years of work experience including at least three years of management level experience; 
  • a comprehensive statement of personal goals including aspirations and expectations;
  • a passport-sized photo for identification purposes;

You may be asked to take part in a selection interview or provide additional information for the selection panel. 

The work experience requirement ensures that you are able to contribute effectively to group discussions and debates from a position of experience and knowledge. Consequently, if you do not have such experience you are unlikely to be considered for entry.

Applications close on 15 February for a Semester One start and 9 July for a Semester Two start.

Your tuition fees may be different depending on the courses you choose. Your exact fees will show once you have chosen your courses.

There will also be some compulsory non-tuition fees and for some courses, there may also be charges for things such as study resources, software, trips and contact workshops.

You may be eligible for a student loan to help towards paying your fees.

If you have studied less than 60 credits previously, the New Zealand Government offers fees-free tertiary study for eligible domestic students. Tuition fees

The 2025 tuition fees for domestic students is $3036 for each 15-credit course. These costs include all study materials, e-books, and some catering on contact days. There are also annual non-tuition fees that apply to all Massey courses.
