It is recommended that you arrive to your Massey campus at least two days before the Campus Orientation programme begins, to give you time to settle into your accommodation and to become familiar with your new surroundings.
Please note the semester start information session dates may not apply to PhD and English Language students. Please contact the International Office if you are not able to begin your programme of study by the date indicated on your Offer of Place.
If you would like to be collected from the Auckland International Airport please complete the Auckland International Airport pick-up form at least 72 hours prior to arrival. A shuttle bus will pick you up from the airport and take you to the Massey University campus. The shuttle costs approximately NZD$75 which you need to pay this fee directly to the driver. Please look for the Massey University sign in the arrival area of the airport.
The fastest and easiest way to get to Palmerston North is to take a flight from Auckland domestic airport to Palmerston North. The flight takes approximately one hour. Please ensure that you book your onward flight to Palmerston North as part of your international flight ticket so that you are not restricted to the domestic weight allowance of 23 kgs. The airport code for Palmerston North is PMR.
Alternatively, you can travel to Palmerston North by train or bus from Auckland which takes approximately 8-12 hours.
If your international flight arrives in Wellington you can travel to Palmerston North by taking a one hour flight from Wellington. Please ensure that you book your onward flight to Palmerston North as part of your international flight ticket. If traveling by train or bus these depart from Wellington Railway Station. There are limited number of flights, trains, or buses going from Wellington to Palmerston North so please book before leaving your home country.
If you are a new international student who will live in halls accommodation on the Manawatu campus please complete the Palmerston North Airport pick-up form. The service is available for a limited period prior to the International Student Enrolment and Welcome Programme. Please check the collection form for dates. If you arrive outside the collection period you will then need to make your own travel arrangements by a taxi or airport shuttle. Please contact the International Student Support Office for assistance.
The fastest and easiest way to get to Wellington is by a one hour flight from Auckland domestic airport. Please ensure that you book your onward flight to Wellington as part of your international ticket, so that you are not restricted to the domestic weight allowance. It costs approximately NZD$15-$20 by shuttle from Wellington Airport to the city.
Alternatively, you can travel to Wellington by train or bus from Auckland. This journey will take approximately 10-14 hours.
If you are staying in the Cube or Kāinga Rua accommodation then please read the Wellington Airport Transfer instructions, prior to your arrival in New Zealand.
Approval is rarely given for students to arrive after the official start date of a semester. You need to request approval from International Admissions for your late arrival. If your request is approved you must inform the international support staff Campus Contacts at your intended campus of your new date and time of arrival. Students studying English or Foundation English programmes of study will need to advise Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE).
Please note, that arrival collection services are not extended to late arrivals and you will have to make your own arrangements.
Courtesy arrival collection is available for students living in on Manawatu and Auckland campus accommodation only.
Students must complete the campus arrival collection form to request the collection service. The arrival collection form should be received by the Accommodation Office staff at your intended campus not less than one week before you arrival.
The collection service is only available for your final campus destination. For example, if you are intending to study at the Manawatu campus, then you would be collected from the Palmerston North airport (not from Auckland or Wellington).
Depending on the time and day of arrival, you would normally be taken directly to your pre-booked university halls accommodation or to the international support office on your intended campus.
There is no arrival collection service for the Wellington Halls. A charge for students using the arrival collection service for the Albany on-campus student village. No fee applies for students using the arrival collection service for Manawatu on-campus accommodation, if they arrive within the collection period, which varies every semester.
Homestay students will need to contact the Homestay office at their campus directly and provide details of date and time of arrival so that arrival collection arrangements can be made as these differ from campus to campus.
If you have arranged to be collected at your destination airport upon arrival then look out for a person holding a sign with your name on it.
If you have not made any arrival plans then you will need to make your own way to your accommodation from the airport. We recommend that you have some New Zealand currency available for your arrival so you can make a phone call or pay for transport to your accommodation. Taxis are expensive and airport shuttles are less expensive.
The airport information desk inside the terminal building will give you advice on how to travel to your accommodation destination.
