Doctoral Co-Supervisor Institute of EducationI currently teach across of range of programmes in the IoE. I currently have responsibility for the leading of the Learning Languages curriculum (primary) and Te Reo Māori for Teachers (all endorsements) for the Graduate Diploma of Learning and Teaching. I visit a number of student teachers on practicum across the primary and secondary endorsements.
I teach on the Master of Education - Educational Administration and Leadership endorsement, leading the course, Educational Leadership in Action. I also supervise a number of students completing their master’s thesis. Some of the kaupapa of current/past students include: cultivating Te Ao Māori in mainstream school environments; decolonising art history in mainstream high schools; exploring the experiences of Tangata Tiriti in Māori-medium education. I also act as advisor for students completing their Professional Inquiry for the Master of Education. Some of the kaupapa of current/past students include: how the actions and approaches of senior leaders impact the wellbeing of teachers in Abu Dhabi elementary school contexts; impacts of funding cuts to Māori education on teaching and learning in bilingual primary schools; factors that impact Māori members of NZ primary school Boards of Trustees when giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in their governance role.
I also act as a co-supervisor for PhD students. Some of the kaupapa of current students include: imbuing Shakespeare with mātauranga Māori; conceptualising interprofessional practice through Waka Ama; A Bourdieusian analysis of teacher learning in NZ secondary school English Departments.
He uri ahau nō Te Ātiawa, Taranaki Tūturu, Te Whānau-Ā-Apanui, Te Whakatōhea, Ngāti Manawa, me Ingarangi. I have been a senior lecturer in the Institute of Education since 2022. For the 20+ years previous to that I was a primary school teacher and principal.
