The immense effectiveness and versatility of bioelectronic circuits have yielded multiple benefits to both the electronic, and the biological fields. Mrs Sadia Alam designed bioelectronic circuits in Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) representing DNA-protein interactions and neuron-to-neuron communication process at the molecular level. These circuits are capable of analysing the gene behaviour of living organisms and mimicking the neurological processes dependent on neuron-to-neuron communication. Biological experimentation on bacteria Escherichia coli was carried out that validated that the DNA-protein bioelectronic circuit is capable of predicting gene behaviour of living organisms. Fabricated chip results of the neuron-to-neuron communication circuit showed that the circuit produces voltage pulses similar to signals generated by neurons to communicate among each other. Electronic gene oscillators and neural DNA transcription initiation circuits are one of the applications of the proposed VLSI bioelectronic circuit designs that can assist researchers to gain deep insights into complex processes of life.
