Workplace bullying in the New Zealand Nursing Profession: The case for a tailored approach to intervention
Read article at Massey Research Online:
Workplace bullying is a concern for many industries and little is known about how best to manage the problem. Ms Blackwood''sresearch explored workplace bullying intervention in the context of the New Zealand nursing profession. She developed a process model explaining the stages experienced by a nurse target in finding a resolution to their bullying experience. She also highlighted the heterogeneous nature of workplace bullying by identifying five different types of bullying and examining the implications of each type for effective intervention. Finally, she examined the work environment in which nurses experienced bullying and provided new insight into how the work environment impacts on intervention in workplace bullying experiences. Ms Blackwood''sresearch recommended tailoring intervention strategies according to the nature of workplace bullying present in an organisation and considering the impact of work environment factors on the efficacy of such strategies.
