Acceptance Sampling for Food Quality Assurance

Acceptance sampling is the primary statistical technique for assessing the quality in batches of food. However, safety inspection represents a substantial economic burden to producers due to the testing costs. Mr Santos Fernandez's research developed several novel acceptance sampling techniques for microbiological applications. The effect of factors such as the spatial distribution of microorganisms, the analytical unit amount and the mixing efficiency was studied. Single and two-stage sampling plans based on compressed limits are introduced. These new techniques provide better protection for consumers and require smaller sample sizes when compared to the current sampling procedures used within the industry. Free software and apps have been published, allowing practitioners to use more efficient sampling procedures.
