The biological sciences have been a problematic component of nursing education and practice for many years. In addition, bioscience knowledge levels amongst many nursing lecturers are poor. Ms Hardcastle explored the teaching and learning experiences of 10 New Zealand nursing lecturers to identify factors that influence their preparedness with bioscience integration when teaching nurses. She found that participants’ perceptions of the value of biosciences underpin their preparedness and the way they evaluate learning, teaching, and practice experiences. Her research demonstrates the importance of reflective learning and development of personal meaning in bioscience education and the preparedness of nursing lecturers to practice integrated teaching. This contrasts with contemporary perspectives of bioscience education and theory in nursing.
