Ms Good’s research investigated the relationship between psychosocial stress and first episode depression. In a sample of 26 adults receiving Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, attributional style was found to moderate the relationship between stress and depression, as clients with more depressive attributional styles showed significant delays in recovery, even when stress improved rapidly. Ms Good’s research represents one of the first applications of multilevel analysis within this domain and her research involved the development of two new stress measures and provided preliminary support for classifying clients into three stress groups according to their speed of improvement.
