Read article at Massey Research Online:
Mr Harris''sresearch examines the proliferation of self-reflexive fiction in the literature of New Zealand since the middle of the 20th century. While metafictions have conventionally been thought to undermine notions of realism and sever illusions of naturalistic representation, Mr Harris shows ways in which the mode can be seen to expand and augment realism by naturalising unique forms of self-reflection.
