Read article at Massey Research Online: MRO icon

Ms Lu researched computer-assisted foreign language learning. Based on speech processing technology, she proposed and developed a Computer-Assisted sentence Stress Teaching and Learning Environment, CASTLE, to help learners of English as a second language perceive and produce English stress, which is important in verbal communication. CASTLE can provide individualized speech learning material that has learners’ preferred voice features. Also, CASTLE can automatically exaggerate the differences between stressed and unstressed words to help learners perceive English stress and provide feedback to help learners correct their stress-errors.
