Mr Assadollahzadeh''sresearch focused on the structure and properties of nanoclusters consisting of the elements cesium, tin, copper and gold. Nanosized clusters are regarded as a new type of quantum material, as they constitute a bridge between microscopic and macroscopic forms of matter. Due to their fascinating and peculiar properties and unique chemical reactivities, the probing of their geometrical and electronic structures to predict both new chemical and new physical properties is currently of great fundamental interest. In order to systematically search for the most stable structures, Mr Assadollahzadeh developed a genetic algorithm code coupled with quantum based methods. New structures were found and electronic properties predicted which are all important for the design of new quantum dots and nanomaterials.
