Studies on renal safety and preventive analgesic efficacy of tramadol and parecoxib in Dogs

Mrs Kongara’s research focused on renal safety and efficacy of novel analgesics, tramadol and parecoxib, in dogs. Initially, the efficacy and safety of analgesics were screened in anaesthetised healthy experimental dogs under controlled conditions. Subsequently, their efficacy was compared with morphine in dogs undergoing surgery. The short form score of the Glasgow composite measure pain scale and changes in intraoperative electroencephalogram (EEG) responses were used to assess the efficacy of the analgesics. In another trial, the efficacy of test analgesics was evaluated against electrical stimulation in anaesthetised experimental dogs, using EEG. These studies on novel analgesics significantly contribute to safe and effective pain relief in dogs subjected to different types of noxious stimuli.
