Mr McCool’s thesis is based on insider research in which the tools of ethnography and critical reflection have been turned towards aspects of the researcher’s life and the lives of his research participants to produce a thoughtful commentary upon the experience of university life for disabled students. The participants in the study shared stories of successful coping strategies, the importance of mentors or communities of practice, and a desire for inclusion in the wider community, expressed through their commitment to community service.
