Dr Luca Panizzi

Senior Lecturer in Equine Surgery

School of Veterinary Science

Luca graduated from the University of Parma (Italy) in 2003. After graduation he spent 2 years at Chino Valley Equine Hospital in Chino (California, U.S.A.) where he completed an internship and a fellowship. He then moved to Saskatoon (Canada) where he completed a large animal surgery residency and a Master of Veterinary Science on carpometacarpal osteoarthritis in horses in 2009 at the University of Saskatchewan.

In 2010 he passed the specialty surgery board exam and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He has subsequently worked for 2 years as a clinical associate in large animal surgery at the University of Saskatchewan and 1 year as a clinical instructor in equine surgery and lameness at the University of Montreal (Canada). Luca moved to New Zealand and joined Massey University in October 2012. Luca is a Registered Specialist in Equine Surgery

His main clinical interests are in equine orthopedics and minimally invasive surgeries, but enjoys all aspects of equine surgery. His research interests focus in equine musculoskeletal injuries and joint diseases.
